Here is a poem I found on another site. I don't know if this is a good place for it. You may want to move it to a tribute page or something, James. Up to you.

Watch Over My Bulldog
God said:
I'll lend you for a little while
A bulldog pup of mine
For you to love while he lives
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or only one or two or three
But, will you till I call him back
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
And...should his stay be brief...
You'll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labor vain
Nor hate me when I come to take
This lent bulldog back again?
Then Lord God heard us say
Dear Lord they will be done
For all the joys Thy bully will bring
The risk of grief we'll run.
We sheltered him with tenderness
We loved him while we may
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
Thy Lord's angel did call for him
Much sooner than we'd planned
We've braved the bitter grief that comes
And tried to understand.
