rylee, arnie and freddy's mom!

« on: September 14, 2004, 12:23:19 PM »

just wondering -- what is the average age that you've all found bulldogs to live to?

rylee (who just turned Cool  has always been bryan's only real family, and i am absolutely terrifed for him to pass on. he's in great shape -- the vet always says he has the body of a 4 year old, and everyone is always surprised to hear he's 8 years old...

i've been told that the average lifespan is 8-10 years -- does that seem to be the case?

thanks for the advice!

From what I've heard it's more like 10 years old but it isn't at all weird for them to be 12 even.  It sounds like your guy has A LOT of life left in him Cheesy

I agree. I think the standard thinking has been 8-10 years, but I think that is probably swaying toward the high end if you have a healthy Bullie.  Part of the problem with the "average" age is that included in that are the extremes like Bullies passing young at 2 for example.

Froma everything I have read, James and Lissa are right. I know that everyone on this board takes such good care of their bullies that they should all live to be 100!  Smiley

Yeah, I guess Jeff will have to do.  Wink
That is one of the reasons I have parrots...so that they can outlive me! Funny how Jeff and I had parrots, reptiles, rats, and a non-releaseable squirrel named Milkface before we had any 'domestic' animals!

You know what though - Rylee could live to be 15.  I think the record is 17 or 18.

I know what you mean.  We just had our first 5 months ago - Gavin.  He just adores Goliath and constantly reaches out for him and laughs and smiles whenever Goliath is around. I am so glad they will have time to be friends.  Smiley

Aww James that's precious.  We need to hear more Gavin stories.  That is so great that they're buddies.  They're going to be quite a pair.  You need to get a photo shoot done with the two of them.

I actually have two squirrels right now, one grey squirrel and one albino squirrel. They are in a separate room that the dogs don't have access to (I close the door) One of my cats, Biscuit, is wwwaaaayyy too interested in them.  Tongue Edgar is the grey and he is too funny! Jeff and I take him out and play with him. Toffee is the albino. A vet student friend of mine raised him and then had to move and couldn't take him with her, so she gave him to us. We cannot handle him at all. Squirrels actually make horrible pets. If you raise them, they will let you handle them, but no one else can. I have raised and released well over 100 opossums, squirrels, raccoons, and birds. The squirrels I have had were unreleaseable were going to be euthanized because of physical problems, so I kept them. One dog, Nubbin, loves the squirrels and other wildlife we have raised.

Trish you're unreal!  That's all there is to it.  I don't know how you do it.
