When you got Lumpy were his feet a mess too?  I have a friend who's got a 1.5 year old bulldog rescue who's treating him for mange.  On top of that he's got bad feet.  His feet are like Maggie's where there are intergital cysts on the top between the toes but the bottom - where the pads are - are red and swollen and they hurt him when my friend baths him and trys to dry them off.  She's tried the Epsom soaks and the bleach soaks but they don't work.  Prep H doesn't seem to work either.
I wondered if maybe Lumpy had hurt feet and what you did.  The vets don't really do anything for the feet because they're so busy worrying about the demodex.
Any ideas - anyone Huh  It's been a struggle for her and I know she worries about it.

Lumpy's Mom!

Lumpy just had huge infected feet from the Demodex and secondary staph infection. He has never had a problem with interdigital cysts...knock on wood...I hope I didn't just jinx myself!  Embarrassed

Please let me know if any of these help. Here are a couple of sites that might be helpful:

Interdigital Cysts

This is another problem that no one seems to be sure what the cause is but you'll know one when you see an angry red swelling pop up between the dog's toes. First examine the paw carefully, especially the underside between the pads to be sure there is no foreign matter (a thorn or such). If there is, take it out. Clean the area. Remedies include: (I) Soaking the paw in warm water and Epsom Salts or Massengale Douche solution, dry and rub in Panalog. (2) Desenex foot powder. (3) ,Preparation H. (4) Division 5 Bulletin formula. Have your veterinarian make this up for you One part 60% DMSO, one part Gentavet solution 50 mg. per ml. Apply one drop per day; rub in with a Q Tip. Do NOT use more than one drop, do NOT apply more frequently than once a day. If you start application at the first sign, this solution will prevent the cyst from developing. With all these treatments, it's best to continue the treatment for two to three days after the cyst is gone.

Thanks Trish.
I just learned today that demodex gets in the feet too.  I didn't know that.  I also read it's the hardest place to get rid of the demodex because the mites can get in the paws really deep.   Did it take a long time for Lumpy's feet to get better?
Thanks again for the info.

It did take a long time for his feet to clear up. In fact, that is where I noticed it first when he had his second outbreak. Demodex is hard to get rid of, but it can be done. Lumpy was on Ivomec for six months the first go round and for another six months the second go round. So far, so good!
