It probably is yeast from him licking them but I'm sure you want to know why he's licking his feet.  A lot of time with feet licking it's allergies.  I did have a foster that was just neurotic and licked her feet because she was nervous.
With Choppers feet is there any swelling in-between his toes?  Sometimes with interdigital cysts they will lick their paws to make them feel better.

I havent noticed any swelling...just that it looks red....ive been told different things to try but have been nervous to try them...My mom said maybe i should try vinegar....I have miconozole spray from the vet...and while it's like pulling teeth to get it between his toes/pads it seems to only sooth...not help...and i have a foot soak...try getting a 1 year old bulldog to sit in a tub of warm water for 10 minutes...thats been really tough...

He's been my vets best friend...when i first got Him..i didnt know that the little spot on his back was Demodex...sooo we went through treating that...and it's gone now..but He's got a little circle on his back where the hair is a little thinner...

And we have constant ear problems...vet says thats yeast as well...sooo we have miconozole drops and this goo stuff for that.....im just hoping i can maybe find some home remedies that work better..i hate that He's in discomfort and I cant seem to get anything to work to make it stop

thanks for Any help..

Yikes I know what you mean about the foot soaks.  Yeah right - my bullie is a year and a half and I can't get him to stand in the tub for longer than 10 seconds let alone 10 minutes.  Have you ever tried benedryl for the feet?  Does he lick them all the time or once in a while?  It's hard to get rid of the yeast if you can't get him to stop licking and at the same time you want to get to the root of why he's licking.
I've got cronic ear problems with Buddy too.  With Buddy the paws and the ears are both allergy related.  Actually what works for the ears is cleaning with Epi Otic everyday.  We've been using it for a couple months and haven't had an yeast infection since.

I have also heard that bleach soaks can be helpful.  The recommended amount is 1/2 cup bleach to 2 gallons of water.  Soak for about 10 minutes (yeah I know).  I have not tried this myself but have heard of good results with it so I may have to since Goliath has allergie related foot licking too.

Epi Otic is something you get from the vet.  It's about $12 for a big bottle that will last you a long time.

I tried the bleach soaks but couldn't get Buddy to stop licking the water so I pulled him out Sad

Lumpy's Mom!

« Reply #7 on: October 11, 2004, 07:58:22 PM »

The redness can be caused by the yeast, but also from the saliva. It is called bronzing if it is from the saliva.  I would look into having him allergy tested. Lumpy has food allergies and is also allergic to storage mites. I had him skin tested, but there is also a blood test for allergies. The only way to test for food allergies is to put him on a special food, usually Science Diet Ultra Z/D. The proteins are broken down so small that the body does not recognize them as an allergen. You have to keep him on the food (and ONLY that food...no treats) for three months. Then you can re-challenge him with his old food and see if he breaks out. His ears are also probably allergy related. I use Malacetic Wipes (you can get them from your vet) for Lumpy's facial folds, feet, and tail pocket. I use Derma Pet Ear/Skin Cleanser for his ears.

If he is licking out of boredom, it is called an acral lick granuloma. Here is a website with info:
