rylee, arnie and freddy's mom!

« on: October 11, 2004, 09:35:59 AM »

we've decided that we will have freddy fixed, and let arnie 'develop' for about 6 more months before he gets neutered...

since fred's the only girl, we won't have to worry as long as she's done.

i'm going to see if they can do it on a friday, so i can stay home all weekend with her, but i'm a little worried about keeping arnie away from her while she heals. we do have a blocked off area i can put her in, but they really hate to be apart. and when we go out, we put both arnie & fred in the blocked off area -  i really don't want to put them in there together if she has stitches -- do you think she'll be okay by monday (when i have to go back to work  Embarrassed)

we'd love any advice!

Maybe you can just play it by ear with keep them apart.  You might not have to if Fred stays quiet and doesn't jump around.  Buddy is a boy so I haven't been through a spay with a dog.  I remember Colombian saying Bianca healed fast.  I would imagine you could easily go back to work on Monday.
Good luck Fred Kiss  Love the name Fred for a girl - how cute is that!

she's named after freddy couples (and arnie for arnold palmer) my fiance is a big golfer...

i spoke with the vet, and she said they'lll keep fred overnight after the operation, and that she should be fine to be left alone by monday.

i shouldn't be worried - although she's the little girl in the family, she's def. the bossy "i'm in charge" bully...whenever arnie does something bad she swats him in the face. v. funny..

It's strange but when I brought Wilma home from being spayed, Trixie left her alone.  Wilma did the same for Trixie a month later.  Did they know that they were under the weather?  Maybe.  It was weird because Trixie doesn't stop playing for a minute but she did leave Wilma alone...

That's interesting.  I have heard that with the great sense of smell that dogs have, they can often detect subtle changes in body chemistry.  That may be what happened??  Pretty neat either way.

hopefully fred's brothers will leave her alone...

you know, i read somewhere that dogs can sense when people are sick as well. there was a study done, where the dogs could pick out who had cancer from a group of people...

interesting...

Lumpy's Mom!

« Reply #7 on: October 11, 2004, 08:01:48 PM »

In my experience, the other dogs have left the one that was just spayed alone for a few days after the surgery. The younger the animal is when they get fixed, the quicker they bounce back. At the local Animal Control, animals are fixed as young as wight weeks old. They always seem to bounce back by the next day.
