I love me some bulldog!

Hey guys...

I just wanted to ask about a puppy's first vaccinations.  Lissa sent me a schedule of vaccinations, but I lost the link, so here I am.

Today, Jesse took Lulu in for her shots, and I couldn't be there so bear with me on this one...
He said that our vet did the shots and that she actually owned two pit bulls herself, and warned him that pit bulls are especially susceptible to parvo.  I did some research on parvo (I'd heard of it but never knew what it was) and saw that most vets do parvo vaccinations as long as the pup is more than 6 weeks.  However, I called and asked if the vet had given her a parvo shot, and he said he didn't think so.
He has a lack of attention span so I was wondering if parvo vaccination was one of the shots she probably received, based on your experiences.  I would figure that since she warned us about it that she'd go ahead and give the vaccination, but who knows...  let me know what you all think...

Distemper - an airborne viral disease of the lungs, intestines and brain.
Hepatitis - a viral disease of the liver.
Leptospirosis - a bacterial disease of the urinary system.
Parainfluenza - infectious bronchitis.
Parvovirus - a viral disease of the intestines.
Corona - a viral disease of the intestines.
Bordetella - a bacterial infection (kennel cough)
Rabies - a viral disease fatal to humans and other animals.

We give three sets of vaccinations at the vet clinic where I work.

Six weeks of age: Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus.
Nine weeks old: Same as above plus the first Bordetella intranasal vaccine.
Twelve weeks of age: Same as above, second Bordetella intranasal vaccine and Rabies.

Some vets give more. I think the above is sufficient.

Also, the LSU Vet School has gone to giving the Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus vaccine every other year. I have adopted this policy with my own animals. Most small vets will not go to this policy b/c vaccinations are their 'bread and butter' so to speak.
Rabies is required by law in Louisiana every year. This varies from state to state.

Sweet Pea call and ask the vet if he gave her the parvo shot.  I know it's one of the early ones they get.

Thanks, you guys.  I feel like a first time mom, worrying like crazy over every single thing that she does!   Embarrassed

From now on, I'm definitely going to be the one to take Lulu to the vet... that way I know everything that went on in detail!   Roll Eyes
