Ohh, that's different.  I agree with that, also.  I wouldn't leave the animals either, even if it meant I was making Phats swim and carrying Toonie on my front, and Buhb on my back!

But, if it was just me - I'd have been outta there!

Like Moses leading across the desert, gather your 'family' and GO!
Dogs, cats and stuff, they're coming.

So I had some horses or something.  It doesn't make sense to sit there and apologize for their predicament and pray help is coming along. Why sit there and help them starve?   Get yourself out of the danger zone so you can then contact friends, family, agencies that could provide the means to go back in yourself with help.

Think about it. In the midst of a disaster recovery like that, it's going to be people first. The most they might do is open pens and let the animals have a chance to fend for themselves (and they'll do better than most humanoids).
If you're caught in a blizzard of the century up north, rescue and relief efforts will be for the people first.  I have to save myself in order to save the ones I love and that depend on me.

oh well... what a depressing line of thought to start the weekend. A soft, overpopulated world with a species whose lost basica survival instincts.

The only "good" thing to come out of Katrina is the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (PETS). Now people won't have to leave their pets behind when they are rescued.

...97 million good things came out of Katrina

I just read where a 73 year old who lost two homes in Katrina won the largest single powerball prize in LA history.  After losing his two homes, him and his wife moved into her little house. It happened to be near a Shell gas station.  The gas station he stopped at to get a gal of milk for her and while at it bought a quick pick since he had some change.  Even though he'd already bought his usual ticket earlier in the day at a different location.

Katrina set him up for this win.  Probably just one silver lining of many who actually saw good fortune after surviving the disaster.
