Ahhh, she is so beautiful! Glad to hear your wife is feeling better.
Do you think Gummi and Sophie wonder who that strange looking bulldog puppy is?
The reaction from the dogs was very interesting.
At first they were very excited and ran around crazy when she started to cry. Sophie was funny the first time the baby was put into the pack n play she sat right next to it watching through the mesh. The only scare we got came when Sophie heard the baby cry. She barked to get our attention and then started pawing at the mesh (she no longer does that)
Both dogs followed the baby everywhere she was carried as well. During the first diaper change they were at table at ground level looking up.
The first breastfeeding was an adventure because they really wanted to get up and see what was happening. We had to rig a barricade using 3 tv dinner trays so my wife could relax. I think it really helped when I sat on the floor and played with them during the first breast feeding. It let them know they are still part of the family and it distracted them.
They are settling in just fine now.
Sophie is perfection with the baby. She is curious when the baby is brought near but under control. She quickly resumes doing her own thing and just relaxing.
Gummi is still the more curious one and gets reprimanded from mommy on occasion for sticking his nose in too close.
During our sleep routine both dogs are waking up for every feeding. They come out of the bedroom and fall asleep on the couch until we are done. Then the entire family goes back to the bedroom for another 2 hour sleep.
They are good about the lamb swing too thank god. That is the lowest level we put the baby and they are completely comfortable with it now...even when swinging and playing music.
