I'm just here for the belly rubs..

« on: March 09, 2010, 11:33:16 AM »

Well Brody made the 6 month mark seizure free two days ago.  Unfortunately he has had 4 seizures in the last 24 hours.  Tiff and I are pretty sure that we have found the cause.  We adjusted his medication dosage down and then did not realize that we where under-medicating him as well..   It has been a rough day and we are feeling like total tools.  His last seizure was this AM while Tiff was driving home from work in rush hour traffic with him in the car.   I dropped him off with her on my way to work so he would not be home alone.   Glad I did.   She was able to pull over and give him some Valium to stop it.  she injured her back in the process...  Huh

Gag... really not looking for sympathy right now, just some warm thoughts for Tiff and my Boy..... Thanks..  Undecided Undecided

I am so sorry! Sending hugs to you all!!!
Do they know a reason for Brody's seizures or is it ideopathic? He seems to be very sensitive to his med adjustments.
Oh my! I hope you get Brody's seizures under control quickly and Tiff gets better also!

Keep us posted!!

Who knows what causes it.   All we know that we had been giving him less, not realizing that he was prescribed less at the time.   After Tiff and I talked about it, I realized the vet did indeed talk to me about it.  Short of it.. He was on 1000 MG a day of bromide. Vet dropped him down to 750, then Tiff and I  (not paying attention to the bottle dosage reduced it even more... down to about 500 a day).  I hope thats what the cause is..

Yes we are usually very on top of things with his meds, not this time though... blahhh...

Oh man...I'm so sorry guys.  Sending all three of you a big bear hug.  That is the worse thing to see happening to your baby.
Hoping for a seizure free ride from now on.

PLease don't be too hard on yourselves!!! You guys do so well and are so on top of Brody & his needs that it amazes me!!! Mistakes do happen. The important thing is, you figured it out and you are working to fix it!!!
Is there any chance the vet could recommend like a loading dose to get his bromide level back up a little more quickly???

Yes, that is what we are doing now.   We have increased his dosage trying to get his levels back up.

She is doing good... Talked to her this evening.  You could hear Brody snoring away in the background.   She is sore, but better..

Much better - thanks!  Grin  I (Tiff) hammered him senseless with Valium yesterday, the vet said it's important to do that to break the seizure cycle and then we upped his Bromide dose to get him loaded back up.  Embarrassing to do something so stupid without thinking..

The seizure in the car SUCKED huge, I seriously hope to not have to go through that again.  Gah..

I'm sorry all of you had to go through the seizure, BUT now you know what caused it.  That's good.  I'm sure Brody can now go another 6 months without a seizure!
Hang in there!
