This just boggles my mind every time I go to the vet.  We use a Bulldog vet, so usually there are 4-5 other Bulldogs there.  90% of the time, the other people there encourage their dogs to come near mine, not even knowing why were are there!  For all they know, mine have some contagious disease.

When MB came to us, he brought a very bad intestinal infection, promptly infecting PC.  They both needed to go in and were pooping water, it was that bad.  A woman with an 8 week old Bulldog puppy in the waiting room unclips the leash to let it run near mine, without even asking if it's ok!

Both me, and the receptionist told her it's not a good idea since they are sick, but by the time she got the pup they had already exchanged licks.  I truly don't get it.  Her poor puppy would have probably suffered a lot more than my boys did if they caught it.  And when I am not receptive to these people, the owners look at me like I'm crazy or unfriendly when I'm just trying to prevent my dogs or their dog from getting sick!  Sure, they are not always sick with a contagious disease when we go, but why take that chance?  So, what do you do?

One of the reasons I changed vets.....everytime I went into the lobby, there would be 10-15 people with their pets letting them do whatever.  And these were some very questionable people/critters.  I loved the vet..a wonderful vet, old school.....sometimes the wait would be as long as an hour....this plus other issues, so changed vets.  Yes, it would make me very nervous.

Meatball sits or lays on the floor at my feet.  He's allowed to be petted by humans if they ask, but he's kept on a short leash.

OK well one time there was a pregnant female there for a check up... they got to sniff each other out... but only after her owner made sure Meaty wasn't sick.

Like Petco when he gets his nails done,  Meaty LOVES the vets!

(partly because of all the way cool fresh "smells"!)

When we go to the vet the boys are in a sit STAY within one inch of me at my feet.  If people want to pet them, fine - but they are on lockdown from moving.

I guess we are lucky. Our vet schedules appointments so, aside from the barking or meowing in the next room, you would never know someone else is there. On occasion I will see someone leaving as we are going in, but they have the entrance and exit very far apart so there is never a chance to exchange sniffs or licks Grin I'm probably going to miss him the most when we move next week Cry

We were at the vet yesterday, for his orthopedic consultation.  The seating area has 4 rows of seats, separated by a wall and plexi glass so you can be as close or as far from others as you want.  Since he's limping and excitable, I chose to sit where no other people were sitting.  Some idiot with a poodle on a retractable leash thought it would be fun to let all 20 feet of the leash loose and he kept coming towards PC from the other side of the room.  Poor PC would fall asleep and relax finally, then the damn dog would come and rile him up.  I truly don't get people.  What if PC wasn't dog friendly?  Not like that woman could do anything, she didn't even have her dog in view!
