Ok, so we are having our first "blizzard" of the season, with 4-6 inches of snow due tonight, as well as a high of 10 F tomorrow (tues), and 2 F Wed.  We recieved 2 inches yesterday during the 30's, and Dozer was fine.  However tonight, he absolutely refused to poop.  He hasn't pooped in almost 24 hours and doesn't want to be outside whatsoever (not like i blame him).  I have the porch all shoveled off for him, but he doesn't want to poop there, he wants to go into the grass, which is almost tummy high...  When i have found some grass for him to go on during walks, he doesnt want to go there, he wants to get back inside.  This is his first winter, and I've never had any dogs that had issues with snow.  Help!  He will need to poop eventually! Any ideas?

The boys gonna have to poop sometime!  Wink  I'd just keep offering him to go out and let him decide when enough is enough! Poor guy, I don't blame him.

I laugh at what I do but I do it.  I shovel a small path up the backyard towards the top and clear a good size circular area where the grass shows and she will walk in circles in there and go.  I only do this when the snow gets up towards her belly cause she will run through the yard and go when it's just a small amount of snow.

Meatball had the same problem last winter - it was his first too, as he'd come up from the South.  We shoveled a path off the deck and out a ways into the yard, then he found he could jump under the deck and go.  Undecided

Maybe try making some inexpensive fleece booties for his feet?  Would that freak him out more or maybe make his feet more comfy?

Poor baby! Doesn't know yet how much fun it is out there!  Try making a snowball and toss it - nothing like a little activing to get things moving!

I laugh just trying to think what my neighbors must be thinking when they see me shoveling the grass in my backyard.   Cheesy

We have a teeny tiny yard, so to shovel an area in the grass will mean i'm shoveling over the fence!

You could buy a patch of turf grass and have him poo on that  ?

I figured it out... the wind blew all the snow up onto our porch, and blocked his area into the "yard" which was blown to just about nothing.  So i shoveled the path that was blocked, spread the snow around to even it out a bit, and now he will disappear out there for 5-10 min when he needs to go.  Still wont go while on our walks, and that is not usual, but at least he's not holding it anymore.
