Bulldogs Rule!

« on: December 10, 2010, 10:00:51 PM »

We tried to reduce Hank's Atopica dose to every other day. That did not go well. He tore his cone collar off and face and ears up badly. Aaron came home on lunch and found Hank covered in blood. (Aaron doesn't handle gore at all.) He calls me at work freaking out. Aaron tells me he tried to clean him up. I catch our vet before he leaves for the day and he sends me home with Prednisone and says he will see him in the am. Hank is covered in blood (mostly dried) when get home two hours later. I gave him the Prednisone and sat on floor to clean him up.  It looked pretty bad at first, but except for some bruising he was ok.

He ended up back on Atopica every day and is almost finished with the Prednisone prescription. A few days into the Prednisone, Dr W decided we should try Fluconazole which is used to treat Valley Fever. It's also used for feminine issues.I have always suspected that if we could get the yeast managed..Hank would not have to wear the cone of shame.
IT'S working! Hank has 3 doses left and has been cone free for 4 days straight. I took him to work with me Thursday so Dr W could see him. Doc says Hank looks the best he has ever seen him. I think Hank looks the best WE have ever seen him. Doc says the drug is safe to use again on a short term basis if/when he starts itching again so we wait and see..
