So my Ottis is hurt (I posted in the general health forum) and since he's only 7 months old he's all about playing.  When we got back from the vet yesterday and into the house, he went to get his ball so we could play.  The vet said to have him rest since it's his left rear leg that is injured.  I feel horrible because he keeps going for his toys so we can toss to him, but we obviously want him to get better ASAP so we have to refuse.  To those who have had a similar situtation, what type of activities do you do to keep your babies busy or entertained without the running around?

Thank in advance for the suggestions!

xoxo Rosa and Ottis

My bully has never been much a runner. As far as entertainment/diversions, a filled Kong and the Tug-a-Jug fit the bill for Brutus. Of course not sure how well good the jug toy is for a dog with an injured leg but Premier has a bunch of "Busy Buddy" toys: http://www.premier.com/View.aspx?page=dogs/products/toys/busybuddy

Bullies or Bust!

You can try the Everlasting Treat Ball or deer antlers (amazon has both) for some long lasting chew time. Or tire him mentally with 3 cups and a treat underneath one of the cups, move it around and let him figure out where it is. It's hard when they're young and full of energy. Sad

Thanks Joy, the website looks great...Susan, I thought of the three cups with a treat, but felt a little silly trying a trick that is usually done with humans.  I should give my Ottis a little more credit, he's smart enough to figure it out.  Grin

ditto ditto ditto!!!! i played games with harlow. she loves the cup game. i would teach her new things, just silly things like saying hello....she kisses me n then puts her head on my leg...so so cute, kissing me when i say "i love you" to her, bully sticks, antlers, peanut butter in kongs.

i'm hoping just some of that works when i bring steeler home, he is a mover.

Coming in late on this one, I hope Ottis is all better and back to playing now. Emma had stuffed babies she loved to play with. She never ripped them up, she would parade them out when I had company, one by one for my guest to see. It reminded me of my kids when they were little.  When she had her surgery I thought I would try what I used to do with my kids when they needed entertained, so I made her babies walk and talk to her (I know I sound like I have lost my mind!), but she loved it! I could even get her to give her stuffed cat a high five. This would entertain her for at least an hour. Also, living in town, I would put her in her fold out fence at the door so she could watch people walking by the house. It was a good distraction for her.
