The paws that refreshes

WWW

This is Ziggy, our newly adopted son.  It was made official last month and he has just turned one year old.  He is getting along quite well with Tootsie and is really becoming one of the family.  He is a true bully-cuddle-butt and love bug.

The only downside is his crate training.  He came to us having been "trained" to use wee-wee pads; so he tends to pee in his crate every few days.  Every three or so days, he decides that's is ok to use his crate to relieve himself.  We always take him out before bed.  And every so often wake to find he had peed in his crate.  His crate has been reduced in size to the smallest that will allow him to sleep.  We also us the crate to feed him his meals; trying to utilize the theory that he 'shouldn't pee where he eats.'  No avail.  The only thing in his crate is a towel that we use as 'bedding.'  Do you suppose that he is still viewing the towel as a pad? Should that be removed as well?

It's a bit frustrating.  Any suggestions?

Here he is... the little mush.

Congrats!!! He's gorgeous!!! What a bundle of cuteness!

Sorry to hear about the peeing. I would take the towel out and see what happens. At 4 years old, Violet will still pee if there is anything soft in her sleep spot. I hate the thought of them not having a blankie but in our case, she is die-hard about peeing on it. It gets very frustrating.

Best of luck with your babe!!

Like Susan mentioned, remove the pad and see what happens...   Sometimes bully's are just bed wetter's...

So cute!!!

And I agree, remove the pad.  When we got MB (he was also near 1), he would pee in his crate every single time we'd leave anything in there.  We felt pad removing it cause now he sleeps on hard plastic, but he hasn't peed since.

congrats matt....was wondering when and if you were going to post....i saw the adoption story on btb and was so happy for you all. i concur with everyone else..remove the towel. maybe once he's older and has it all down you can put it back but who knows. both mine never have accidents or do anything in the house. well steeler is pen bound since his tplo, i put nice blankets, rugs, sheets, both he and Harlow had a field day both giving just a little squirt here and there (and they are NOT markers) so out everything came and no issues with just the reg carpet.

if we could just readddddd their minds huh.

he is just adorable btw.

Well the good news is he has been 100% since the changes have been implemented.  We cut down the size of his crate space as much as we could and removed everything.  He does not seem to mind the limited space and lack of soft snuggies. We have also begun feeding him there as well.  He has been a good citizen all the way around.  Thanks folks for all the input; as always outside views add great perspective.
