im calling on the bulldog domain for some help, which ive never been let down here. love it.

i have an english bulldog who is 1 year and 4 months who has some breathing issues. i took her to a vet and he told me she has an elongated soft palate and needs to have surgery to shorten the palate.

the issue im having is that ive done research on this and normal cost of the surgery which tends to be well under 1,000. my vet doesnt perform this surgery and only refers me to specialists who have been quoting me between 3,000-5,000 which i think is absurd. ive watched videos of the surgery and have read peoples reviews on having their surgery done at their local vets and getting out the door/dog in great shape for far far less.

im located in South Eastern Virginia...anybody have any recommendations on veterinarians that perform this surgery that are reasonable?

thanks in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris!

Where are you located in South Eastern Virginia? I am in Louisiana but I will ask around. I have friends all over the States.  Smiley

Here is one suggestion I have received. This is from Lindsay who is owned by Carl and Gertie on this board.  Cheesy

I have a WONDERFUL vet in Baltimore who is incredibly reasonable. The bullies haven't had any issues since I moved to DC, but if they do I'll take em back to this guy. His name is Dr. T and he runs Light Street Animal Hospital.  http://www.lightstreetanimalhospital.com/index.htm

From another bullie friend:

I have a number for a vet in Newport News my friend uses for her bulldogs...its called vca blvd and it's off of Nettles Blvd in Newport News. http://www.vcahospitals.com/boulevard Here is the phone number: Phone: 1-757-874-3200

My vet would prob be able to do it, it's a drive though..about 2-3 hours. It's called Animal Care Center in Warrenton, Va.  540-347-7788 is the number...just make sure he double checks that tis is Dr. Rohrs clinic and not Pet House Suites (his doggie Daycare building)
Hope this helps!!!!

that is an ABSURD amount of money. my vet charges an extra couple hundred dollars if he does it when he spays/neuters. and that includes the nares. i would take advantage of the numbers trish gave you and i would also call the local bulldog club of america in your area and see who they recommend. also if you find out the local rescue numbers you can see who they use. good luck.

Here is another reply that I received:

The one vet that we use (the rescue) is Forth Hunt Animal Rescue
1900 Elkin Street
Alexandria, VA 22308
703-360-6100
www.forthuntanimalhospital.com

They are great there.  I drive about 1.5-3 hours ONE WAY to get there with our rescue dogs.

I don't know for sure if they will do the soft pallet.
