So... We're pending lay-offs at work.  And i'm freaking out right now.  There's always the negative spin, but I've been trying to remain positive on the out look... like, it will be a sign i need to go back to school and finally DECIDE on a career rather than the penny on the hour job i've always had.  Yes, there would be unemployment packages and whatnot, but really, i'm freaking out.  Its always been my money that bought stuff for the dog, paid his vet bills, etc.  My husbands money is the stuff that goes towards house payment and car payment and any random bill (other than my phone).  Thankfully we have very little credit card debt, but i dont want to fall into that sink hole.  At this point i'm praying that Dozer doesn't come up with any health issues or the like.  As far as the schooling bit goes, thankfully my grandfather set aside an acct for our family specifically for higher education, and when he died, a majority of his life insurance went into it, and my dad has been pushing me for the last few years to get what use i can out of an education.  This is such a stressful time right now, i cant even begin to explain it.  And cant publicly explain why its "pending" until Tues when everything is fully announced...

We are heartbroken at our store.  It feels pretty surreal.  At this point i dont know whether to laugh, cry, be happy, sad or neutral.  Geez... I sure didnt think it would end like this. Sad

I heard about Borders just the other day. I am so sorry. Stay postive! That's all you can do. When one door shuts, another one opens! Keep that in your mind! Kiss

So sorry you are going through this!  As others have said, stay positive!  Take full advantage of going back to school...I'm sure in the long run it's going to be for the best.

I know what your going through...both hubby & I have gone through layoffs.  It sucks, it's scary and while things may be tight, you'll get through it.  Sending positive thoughts your way!   Grin

Something will turn up - or do the school bit!

My daughter is devastated that Borders is going - she loves books - refuses to get a Kindle or anything like that... even my "extra" kid serving in Afganistan refuses to use a Kindle.

He just ordered 15 books from Borders online - they ship straight to his APO address for free.

If you don't know what you want to do - take several different courses and expose yourself to new stuff.  (if you choose to do the education route)

Good luck - sending hopefull thoughts your way!

Tale advantage of the education route. Maybe you can get a part-time job on campus (at the bookstore). Take some classes that meet the degree and take a couple of fun classes, too. What's the old saying, when one door closes, another door opens? Here is another door opening! (You'll be surprised that you will still be able to provide for your bullie without the extra income.)

Yeah - getting that qualification will be worthwhile for sure (and it's great your grandad had the foresight for that). Just incidentally, Borders is still surviving here (other side of the world).
