I had to rush Axel to the emergency vet hospital this morning when he started coughing up foam and having a hard time breathing. He has pneumonia and is being kept for 24 hours to administer oxygen and meds. This is the worst I have ever seen him and it's breaking my heart that I can't be right there with him. He is my baby and I am scared to death. Not to mention they quoted me a bill of over $2000. I am waiting on an update on him from the hospital right now. He better be ok.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers!!

I am going to pick him up at 9pm tonight. Vet and techs say he's acting way better and eating, although the xrays taken today showed no improvement. He is still on oxygen and hopefully will be stable enough to take home tonight where he can get some good TLC. They are throwing in another med today on top of the Baytril and others they are giving him to see if this will help clear it up. I miss my boy and am a little worried that there was no improvement, but I guess it really had only been one day on meds.  Seems like it would take a couple to see some real improvement on the xrays. Good thing is that it hasn't gotten worse. I'll keep ya updated on his progress once we get home.

Dulce has been through pneumonia. It was scary and I posted a bit during the experience. She hasn't been quite the same since. She doesn't breathe as well as she did. Good Luck with your little one.

Axel, is home and doing well. Had a bit of a coughing spell at 2 am this morning which was a little worrisome. But I was able to get him calmed down and back to sleep after about 15min. He ate his normal breakfast today along with all this pills and has lots of energy. He's wanting to go out for a walk. I took him on a sort one this morning so he could handle his business and he would have loved to keep going. I took him back in though. Don't want him over doing it. I had him in the steamy bathroom for a little while a while ago and did a bit of coupage on his chest to try and loosen all the gunk in his chest. He doesn't like that too much. My guess is that is very sore from all the coughing etc. So...all in all he seems to be doing well. Holding his own without oxygen and is alert and moving around. I'll keep ya all posted!

Hi all.
Axel is doing great. Still a little residual coughing happening when he gets excited. We go back to the vet on Tuesday for a follow up x-ray of his chest. I started him on Nupro to help build and maintain a healthy immune system. Does any one have any thoughts on that or can you suggested something else to help his immune system? My poor boy is sick a lot and spending way too much time on meds which I know he needs to get healed but also can hurt the immune system. Anyway....any suggestions or feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I couldn't bear to go through another respiratory issue at this point. SO glad Axel is ok though!

Yes!! Become a member for goodness sake! You have been a guest since I can remember and I was a guest months ago.. I had the same problem becoming a member until I finally got a hold of Goliath.. actually someone helped me out and emailed him for me like Winwinsmom is doing for you  Smiley

I know I have tried twice to join. Hopefully it will go Thur this time so I can post as a member.

Axel had his follow up visit today. More x-rays were taken and there was significant improvement over last week. There is still a little left but hopefully with another week of his meds will have him back in tip top shape. He has been acting like himself for several days now. I am so happy he was able to pull Thur this. He was in very bad shape when I rushed him in last week. They even asked me if I wanted them to try and revive him if he stopped breathing. Of course I said "YES". Anyway....we will be avoiding doggie day camp from now on and will be limiting our dog park visits to see if this will help keep him healthy. Vet seemed to think as he continues to get older (14 mths old today) his immune system will get stronger. I really hope so cause he gets sick at the drop of a hat. I can't afford any more $2000 vet visits.  And yes I luv Chloe, respiratory issues are the worst. I don't want to deal with one again either. How is she doing by the way?

So thanks to you all for the prayers and well wishes!! Axel thanks you too!!!
