I rarely post on here but I always read what others have posted.  You may see this on the news. This weekend we lost all three of our dogs, our beloved bulldog, Oscar, our havanese, Wickham and our maltese, Emma.  We are beyond devastated.  We just moved to Winnetka, IL from San Antonio, Texas six weeks ago.  We bought a relatively new house (9 years old) with a fully finished basement....beautifully done w/ a staircase open to the first floor.  My babies kennels were in the family room area of the basement, where they slept at night. In the wee hours of Saturday morning, my entire basement flooded to ceiling.  The house has never had water in the basement.  If I thought there was a one in a million chance of this occurring, they wouldn't have been there.  Two weeks ago, my son and friend visiting from SA slept there every night.  We think it must have happened really fast because we never were awoken by barking or any noise.  My older son was up during the storm and didn't hear anything.  Our power never even went out.  I didn't know until I woke up in the morning and went out to get the newspaper and my neighbors informed me my basement was flooded.

We are overwhelmed with sadness and grief.  A reporter caught us at the house today and after I calmed myself down, we spoke to him which I wish I hadn't.  He wrote a nice article....which has led to many hurtful comments about why we'd have the dogs kenneled in the basement, ect.  My dogs loved their beds. They felt safe in their kennels.   It wasn't like this was a damp dark basement.  It was a full part of our home, with a family room and guest bedroom.  It's amazing how awful people can be.

I loved my dogs, they were my babies and miss them more than anyone can imagine. I haven't stopped crying in days.  Oscar was the most perfect bulldog.  He was so sweet and loving.  I can't believe he is no longer with us.

What a horrible, devastating thing to happen. My heart completely goes out to you. Sad  Do not listen to any jerk that says something hurtful. They don't know your home or love for your babies. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts. God bless.

My heart is breaking for you. Please ignore the ignorant people who wrote the hurtful comments.  I lived in my parents basement when I was in still living at home. It's part of the house. In the summer it's cooler.

I am so so sorry for your horrible loss. Sending you big hugs.

That is terribly sad news, and a real warning about flooding. Even our little local creek can rise from about 1 foot deep to 8 foot after heavy rain which you would never expect if you saw it on a normal day. Our thoughts are with you at this distressing time.
