when we weighed him tonight he's put on some weight and is now 43kg (nearly 95 lbs) - although we still walk lots its definitely time for a diet!

Here is a pic from today (it does exaggerate his size a bit, but still ...)

He didn't have any siblings (only one in the litter); I think his mom and dad were just normal size. Both his dad and grandad were show dogs, so must have been normal size. We fed him a high protein diet and walked him heaps when he was younger (after his puppy stage), so he is muscular and muscle weighs more than fat. However he does not have much of a waist and his weight is clearly too much to carry now, I think. He has usually been around 88-90lbs, so has added another 5-7 lbs. He is not currently showing any signs of discomfort and can easily walk for a leisurely hour or more. Here is a picture from another angle from the weekend which makes him look a bit thinner. He did not complain about his reduced food amount last night, although I am only reducing the amounts by a medium amount.

Wow. He is a big one. Hank weighs around 42 lbs. Dulce weighs around 34 lbs. I can hold them both in my lap at once..
He sure is handsome though.

Yeah he is twice the size of most other bullies we meet.

I'm gonna aim for 80 lbs over the next six months. He will be quite svelte at that weight! (It will help with his joints as it is a lot of weight for his front legs to carry, especially as we walk a lot). It is mainly muscle though; my wife decided to take him herself to the vet for his shots today, and she said three people needed to hold him down! (It would have been better and more relaxed if I were there, but nevermind).

Hes a big guy! Gorgeous. Harlow is about 54 lbs n steeler is about 66 and hes still growing. Just an fyi..dont know if u still primarily feed raw but my dogs gained a bit of weight on it.  Its now just an occasional meal for them. 1.5 2 lbs a month is a good goal i think. Reasonable. I agree it ll b better for him in the long run,

Steeler is/will be a big boy too. I think you have to look at the individual dog before deciding if he is too big, regardless of the standard. I think our boy would definitely look a bit odd if we reduced his weight drastically to say 60 lbs (which would be close to a 40% weight drop), regardless that that is above the standard. Anyway, we never intended him for a show dog.

We feed about half raw and half cooked (and some dog biscuits on the side). The reason is he likes some food cooked and some not (eg will eat raw mince but not cooked mince, but will eat cooked kidney but not raw kidney etc).

Surprisingly he seems quite okay so far with his somewhat reduced meal (eats just once a day in the week). At the end of it I usually give him some cheese as a treat, so I have just given him the reduced amount, then finished off with cheese as usual, and he seems quite happy.

He is big but he is handsome.  Kiss Maybe not having any siblings, it all went to him!  Grin I mean that in a good way!
When I was trying to get a few pounds off Winston (RIP Cry Cry) I cut back on the kibble ANd cut out the treats!  Instead of a treat he would get a piece of food kibble.  Worked for me! I managed 18 pounds over a year's time.
Good luck and keep us posted.  I really enjoy seeing pics of your boy and the scenery!

Wow.... what a hunk... Brody came in at 63 pounds yesterday at the vets... He needs to drop a few pounds, but the dog days of summer have kept him inside being lazy...

Ok. I'm embarrassed. It takes 3 people to hold Hank down. That's with sedation for a nail clip. I can not imagine if he were any bigger.

Oh good news! What ur doing is obviously working. Yes steeler is a big boy also and judging the way harlow has matured he has a bit to go. He was just two. He is on the thin side actually a very pronounced tuck which is ok with me. Miss harlow has gained a few but also really filled out in the chest. I like u have just started with a little cutback.

Ur boy is a handsome one!
