« on: May 19, 2003, 02:57:48 PM »

I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out here....

i have a american bulldog / bulldog mix and he is about to turn 4 months this week.  my question is about his size. i know that since he is a mix it is going to very hard to tell how big he will end up but, he is already 38 pounds at this young.  how big and heavy did you little guys get at 4 months?

any help would be great.

thanks

Well, just before Rufus turned 4 months, he was 30 pounds. At  5 1/2 months he already weighed 47. He is now 5 years old, and weighs in at 67 pounds, and is not the slightest overweight, just massive in the front end. We've had a few English/American mixes come into where I work, and they are usually in the 75 pound range. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures for you.  I am curious, how do you know that it is an American English mix?  Young english Bulldogs often look quite gangly and awkward early on.

I would imagine that his eventual looks will depend much on traits of the parent dogs.

Do you have any pictures of yoiur boy?  We'd love to see him!

Embarrassed I got him when he was about 7 weeks old he was full of wrinkles, he was a present for my mother, we just had to put her bully down after having him for 11 years she loved him so much that she got really depressed that her best friend was gone,so i found an add in the paper for an "olde english bulldog" for only $300 (should of known huh) i called and spoke with the lady she even docked his tail!!!!!! she showed me the parents or what was supposed to be...but then me and my mom were talking and we both didnt think that he was purebreed because his snout is not pushed  in as far as her bully and he kinda looks more like a pitbull.. i was taking him to the vet..and the VET told me that she remembered him (jake) because she was the one who docked his tail..(very small town)she was the one who ended up telling me that he was american and english mix.... Shocked...so i tryed to go back and talk to the lady and she just kinda laughed in my face like gotcha... Angry......i guess we learn from our mistakes though..and yes i will be putting a pic of jake up soon
thanks for your time

If the paper stated Olde English Bulldogge, you may have gotten what you paid for.  Below is a definition of the Old English Bulldogge:

The Olde English Bulldogge is a new and rare breed developed by crossing half English Bulldog, and the other half: Bullmastiff, Pit Bull, and American Bulldog. These dogs do not share the extreme features of our Bulldog and many have stated that they are healthier and more athletic.

Old English Bulldogges are not recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Here is link to some info about them:

In any case, would love to see a picture of Jake.  Thanks for posting.

OEB's are great I own two of them. For the guy wanting an ab/eb cross I hear they are great dogs they top out in the 80+ lbs range and are pretty healthy. Not near as driven as true OEB's. You can contact Willie Sullivan   DOGMAN1271@aol.com

It's about time I've found someone else talking about AB/EB mix.  I have a 9 month white male.  He is a GREAT dog, temperment and all.  If you are curious, Continental Kennel Club, Inc registers this mix as an "Old Time Southern Bulldog."  National Kennel Club has verified that for me.  I guess some people might have been working on this mix for a while.  Could be trying to make this mix a purebred instead.
Anyways, Rocky, my AB/EB mix, is at around 60 lbs.  They are said to get anywhere from 80-110 lbs.  As far as how they should look, Rocky looks more like the AB, because he is 3/4 AB, 1/4 EB.  If you care for pictures, I could share mine w/ you.  If you have any more info, or know where I can get any on this mix, please share that with me.  Thanks, Alex

I have had my 50/50 for 3.5 years now. She is about 65 lbs. Very strong and outgoing outside but a couch potato inside. Her mother was the american and her father was the english. My brother-n-law just got one last week. Its father was the american and mother was the english. She weights twice as much as mine did at that age. I knew a girl that had a male that was 90 lbs. it was a 50/50 from two 50/50's. I have pics of mine if anyone would like to see.

We love to see some pictures.  Though you must register with the board to be able to post pictures.  It's pretty easy to register though, just use the link at the top.  Looking forward to your pictures.

Candi, the original message doesn't appear anymore because it was deleted by James since it advertised the sale of puppies.
