Well, if they could turn that sackage into an accessible pouch like a marsupial, you could just tuck their tags in there. Then they'd never need to wear a collar.

To go a step further... if you needed to keep them occupied for awhile you can tuck a favorite snack in there.  That oughta keep 'em cycling in one spot while you finish your business since I don't think any bullies can reach that area.  Grin

Well I am sure everyone is going to yell at me, but I had planned on neutering Mack today when he had his ACL surgery. Well I didnt do it. I am worried about the possible health risks that he might encure but I feel it is worth the risk to keep my dog complete. He can get a little crazy sometimes, but I like him like that. Marking is just something I will have to deal with, but he doesnt do it at home so I just have to really watch him when we go places. Petco is out of the question...  Tongue I think Mack is the perfect dog and wouldnt be the same without his testosterone flowing through his body. I hear everyone say ohh you have to feed them less because they will be less active and yada yada yada... Well my friend John has hypogonadism a testosterone deficiency, and he didnt know why he felt like crap all the time, well it was from lack of testosterone. Now do I want Mack feeling this way, no I dont think so. I am just kidding when I say this so dont everyone jump on me at once... now I see why women are so grouchy.  Grin

I also feel that Mack would prefer it this way, dont ask how I know its just what I feel. He sure wouldnt be the same, and he is perfect the way he is. I also think people that get male dogs neutered are kinda wimping out and dont want to deal with what god gave these dogs. Again it would suck if Mack god prostate cancer, but thats like saying ohh I am at a high risk of getting prostate cancer, let me just cut my nuts off so I dont have to deal with it. I dont think so. This was kind of a random rant so please dont take this to far, but as of now Mack is keeping his family jewels! Now go ahead and tell me he is just a dog and I am stupid.  Grin

LOL.  I don't think you will ever hear someone on here saying that  Smiley

With Wembers the choice was made for us.  When we discovered his dysplasia I didn't want to run the risk of him ever passing it on.

No, I don't think you are stupid.  I think a lot of bullie owners feel the exact same way.  There is a definite part of me that feels by neutering my dog I am changing who he is.....he is the most docile bullie puppy ever.  My husband expecially wants to put it off for as long as possible.  I live in a home with all boys, including my dog, and even though we will definitely neuter, I certainly understand where you are coming from Smiley

I hope Mack is feeling better from his surgery.  Poor guy, please keep us posted.

Woa Mack  Smiley     Any other forum and I'm sure you'd have started a regulation flame war.  This group is too cool but I'd bet you still get some medically backed feedback.

Now go ahead and tell me he is just a dog and I am stupid. Grin

As Wembley states and John Wayne was fond of saying... "Not likely pilgrim"

However comma there's a plethora of threads and posts in here that seem to indicate the domain as a whole feel  "People"  suck.  Smiley

Now here's another off the wall question.
Why do we  "neuter' male dogs but castrate cattle?
And why don't they just perform a vasectomy on the dogs?  Less intrusive and they remain 'complete' just no offspring.
Unless... the testicles are removed with the intention of eliminating the testosterone.
Yeah, keep them nads and while we're at it,  keep their cotton pickers off my tonsils, gall bladder and appendics!!!!  They came with the package.  Smiley

Neutering/spaying a dog will NOT change their personality. If anything, it has the potential to make them better dogs.

As the Assistant Director of Animal Control used to say, "Don't confuse your sexuality with a dog's sexuality.".  I worked at Animal Control and could not stand that so many animals are killed because people would not get them spayed/neutered. There simply are not enough homes for them all. Bullies are no different. Look at all of the bullies in rescue. IMO, the ONLY people who should breed are the ones breeding for the betterment of the breed.  Maybe you should take a tour of your local Animal Control...a FULL tour to get the real picture. Maybe that would change your mind since health reasons aren't doing it.

I dont have to take a tour.

Me not neutering Mack has nothing to do with him reproducing. It is very unlikely that he is going to escape and impregnate another dog. I have all of the information and I know the risks of not doing it.

Well, I know I am not "wimping out" because my dogs and cats are spayed/neutered. I want what is best for my babies so that they are as healthy as they can be for as long as possible. The health and well being of my companions come FIRST.  I love them enough and don't have anything to prove...

We didn't neuter Benson until he was 2 years...he had to have his elongated soft pallate shortened and our vet wanted to wait until he was full grown, around 2 years, to make sure that he shortened it to an appropriate length.  So we had the neuter and the pallate done at the same time to limit the number of surgeries he would have to have.  It has been almost a year since his neuter and he is the same docile guy he's always been and his sack has shrunk down to almost nothing.  It was hanging down at first but now it's so small!  He didn't exhit any of those "male" behaviors either, we just felt that it was healthier for him to be neutered.  We initially thought about showing or breeding him because he is a great looking bulldog with a super personality, but we didn't want to pass on any negative genentic effects once we found out about the pallate.  He still has his same shape, personality, and good looks.  Neutering didn't change him one bit and I would do it again in a heartbeat!  God bless all those breeders...to much work and worrying for me!

Anna you difinitely did the right thing by waiting and have the 2 surgeries done at the same time.  I can vouch that Benson is a sweet happy go lucky "still liking the ladies" bully!  I LUB Benson! Kiss Kiss

Lumpy had to get well before we could neuter him. We also had his first cherry eye surgery done at the same time as his neuter. If you can do more than one surgery at a time safely, it is better on the dog/cat.  Smiley
