Chloe is starting to limp.. pics included
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:47:19 PM »
About a week ago, my husband took Chloe to a vet specializing in treating bulldogs.. Since the time we first got her, she has been sick with so many things.. Besides all the breathing issues she has, the vet looked at her arm and was concerned. He said once she's done with the new round of antibiotics, to come back and he would begin looking closer at her arm. If you see in the picture, it looks like her elbow is almost broken.. well within a couple of days she began limping and it scares the crap out of me. She is not a dog that shows pain what so ever. We are taking her back to the vet hopefully tomorrow.. I am so sick with worry for this little baby. I love her so much! After all the heartache of seeing her go through with her breathing, I cant believe now we have to worry about her walking around without pain.
Has anyone ever experienced this?  :'(

Thank you so much.. You know, every time she comes up to me, she puts her front paws on my legs when I'm down on the ground and stays like that while I kiss and hug on her. Its getting hard for her to do that now :( I miss it already.. I'll keep everyone posted.

I agree with it looking dislocated.. It must be painful but she doesnt show it or make any sounds that is bothers her.. This is my first bulldog and even through all this, it wont be my last..  :'(

Wow! I would go to the vet asap. Did it look like that when the vet saw her? Bullies have a hugh threshold for pain but that doesnt mean they arent in pain. Harlow had two leg surgeries by the time she wa 18 months. Very difficult. I hope shes ok

Chloe is precious!  :-* :-* She may have elbow dysplasia. That is my guess but your vet would need to confirm that. Please let us know!

It does look dislocated to me too.  Has it always been this way?  Or just getting worse?  Please let us know what your vet says.
Give her a big hug and kiss.   She is just so precious.... :-*

Thank you all for all your hugs, kisses, and best wishes for Chloe. I FINALLY got an appointment with the Vet this afternoon. I cant believe how busy he is.. actually may be a good sign. I will let you all know what he says.

Winwinsmom- To answer your question, I cant say its always been that way but it began to look like that one day and progressively got worse over time. When the vet saw her because of her breathing issues, he noticed it and said it worried him but it got worse since then, and then she started limping. I guess I never really noticed her elbow so much because she runs around and jumps whenever she's excited.. I thought it was just that muscular bullyness that made her look tough, you know?

Well.. soon we will know.. Thanks again! I don't know where I would be without this message board. I am at peace with everyone's kind words..

UPDATE
And.. not so good..  :'(

We got to the Vet's office, and he brought in pictures of the last visit along with a camera. He has his tech put Chloe in this one position where it would really show her two front legs and he snapped another picture. He showed me the difference in the first picture and the second. There is something wrong with the way her bones are growing. Not to mention she's now a couple days shy of 5 months and weighed in at 15 pounds, she gained two pounds in a little less then a month.

He basically sat down with me and handed me a box of tissues. He said how he has never seen a more sweeter, but more physically sick English bulldog to where he didn't think it was even be morally right to refer her to a more specialized vet then he is.. Her windpipe (trachea) is the size of a small straw, her bones are growing so abnormally that eventually she wont be able to walk and if she lives a longer life then what he expects, arthritis will get the best of her.

We talked so openly and I really trusted him. He said that there are surgeries that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars and the risk is just not worth it, not to mention that her breathing will get worse when and if she grows.

I'm just numb! I've been holding her and crying since Friday. I cant just go and get her put to sleep. I also cant and will not have her suffer if I see she's in pain. I'll carry her around everywhere just like I did since she was born, I don't mind. I don't know what to do. I am so in love with this little girl. She loves me too, I can tell by the way she stares at me and lays on me.  :'( :'( I've never been in so much pain like I am in right now.

This is a picture I took of her when we were coming back from the Vet. She has a special couch that I put in the back of the SUV for her to be comfy in..

Who did u take her to?

i was told when harlow was little she had a small trachea n it would b an issue...after another opinion i found out it was normal, she had undergone NUMEROUS surgeries and has had zero problems

Please dont panic.

There are fabulous specialists out there, my dogs have had 3 leg surgeries and they have been serious and costly but they also were

SUCCESSFUL

They can do amazing things. I also got the arthritis speech

Some vets take the approach urs did and others can n do amazing things but u need to take her somewhere where they take that approach.

I wud NOT even consider killing her because she has a leg problem

We have people who can recommend specialist in all areas n they also have something called

Carecredit....its a credit card used for medical issues canine or human and they offer zero interest for 24. 18. 12 months etc. Thats what i had to do. In harlows first 18 months it cost me thousands....she is not a runner jumper. Loves to play ball. She is slow getting up at times but its so livable and SHE has a great quality of life

U can call me anytime if u need help. Please get another opinion

Kim,

I am taking everything you said into consideration.. I am actually starting to feel like there is hope after talking to several people here and hearing their thoughts and opinions.

I am as familiar as I can be with Harlow. I read everything you posted and then went on to your blog to see how she progressed after that last knee surgery. It was beyond informative and I felt so close to your little Harlow. You're a good mommy! That's for sure!

I promise to keep fighting for Chloe.. I needed to hear all this after posting what the Vet had to say. Again, he has been specializing in bulldogs for many years and I am not saying anything bad about him. Another opinion is definitely needed in case there is someone else that believes she can get past all this whether its through surgeries whatever.

I will look into the Carecredit.. I never heard of such a thing and I am so happy to hear there is something out there like that.

Thank you SOO much! I feel so much better!

I am so sorry to hear this.  :'( :'( :'(  But, just as Kim said, get a second opinion...and third if necessary.  A lot of these peeps on here have tons of experience with bullies.
In the meantime, keep your chin up....keep us posted....we will all be saying very special prayers for you and Chloe  :-* :-* :-*

P.S.  the pic of her in your vehicle is too cute  :-*

i am happy to hear that u feel a bit better. here in so cal there is a bulldog specialist that EVERYONE goes to. they are packed, u cant get an app, and it looks like he's running a fertility clinic. i took harlow there for a 3rd opinion one time and i didnt like him n wasnt impressed at all. so just because u are seeing a bully specialist doesnt mean they are the end all (i mean NO disrespect). i just would hate if you closed your mind because this guy is supposed to know it all.

i reread my post and i made lots of mistakes sorry. i was on my ipad and trying to type so fast, i know how it feels to have something really wrong with your dog and have been in complete panics on this board before and gratefully had lots of great people give me comfort and great advice.

what i wanted to say was harlow has had numerous surgeries with NO problems at all concerning her trachea and she now runs, jumps and goes crazee playing ball. the biggest issue is a slight limp once in a while, and of course her hating to go to the vet. dr. h gave me every phone number he has in case i need him and i know he would fight like hell for harlow and has (comfortis reaction, i almost lost her).

i guess i just want u to have someone that would fight as hard for chloe as u are.

wishing u all the best.
