I've got two Bullies, Lily is one year old, and Daisy is just 12 weeks.  Here in Las Vegas air conditioning is a must for the Bullies.  But my wife and I hate it.  For years before getting our dogs, we've lived without any AC at all.  But now it feels like we've moved to Minnesota.  I have a question for those of you who live in hot areas of the country.  What temperature do you keep your thermostat set to?  We want to do right by our Bullies, but would like to stay comfortable ourselves.  Right now ours is set to 78˚ F.  Does that seem OK for the dogs?

I usually keep the temp around 74 for the dogs.  But it's been a mild summer so far so we have been okay with just the windows open and the fan going.  But the temps have always been under 78-79 in the house.  I noticed anything higher they do get a little warm and will lay on the tiles.

I live in FL where it is nice and toasty. I keep my AC set on 76 and my doggies seem to be fine. I actually have to watch Brutus because he will push the blinds away from the doors so he can lay in the sun!

Since starting to think about this, I've noticed that the 78˚ setting actually allows the rooms to get a bit warmer than I had intended.  The dumb thermostat is in the hallway under the main air return vent.  I guess that would be OK if we lived in the hallway.  Duh!  So, I've set it down to 76˚ now.  My dogs rest comfortably now with tongues retracted most of the time.  I do keep the ceiling fans on low to move the air around.

My concern is reading about how allowing the Bullies to live in too warm an environment can actually injure them over the long term.  It seems that warmer air tends to cause them to stretch out their already elongated pallets even further, eventually leading to real breathing problems.  I want to avoid that.

I live in Alabama and we just about run A/C year round but we keep ours on 76-78 and the babies do fine with that, during this part of the year the only time ours even get out in the heat is to go to the potty. Other than that they are inside.
