Goliath to see the vet
« on: November 04, 2003, 08:06:47 AM »
I've gotta call today to make an appointment with the vet today.  Goliath has been fighting ear problems for quite some time and it seems that lately the itching and head rubbing is getting worse.  We have been cleaning regularly and he seems to be better for a day or two, then bam!  It starts over again.

Hopefully the vet can prescribe some medication for him that will take care of this for good - or at least until summer  :P

Wish us luck!
Kind regards,
James and Goliath

Poor baby.  I'm sure the vet will be able to give you something for his ears.  Hopefully it will take care of it right away.
Good luck and keep us posted.

How did Goliath's vet visit go?  Were you able to get in today?

Thanks for your concern.  We did get in.  I am glad we did.  He has infections in both his ears and a fair amount of swelling in one of them.  The vet cleaned his ears out really well.  Now we are treating with a topical solution to decrease the swelling and kill any bacteria  in his ears.  Hopefully this will allow more air in and help the ears to stay dry.  He will also be on cephalexin.  We go back in 2 weeks and we are hoping all is better by then.  I can tell that the topical solution is working some as he seems much more comfortable than he was before.   :)
Kind regards,

Thank you both for your concern.  The medicine appears to be working - I can see that his ears are less swollen, the head shaking has almost completely stopped, and they are no longer a bright pink in color.

Here's to hoping it lasts.

Does Goliath have food allergies? Sometimes, ear problems are related to allergies (food or otherwise) & we all know how bullies are prone to allergies...
I am glad that he is doing better!  :)

Oh no.  Sorry G has ear problems.  Did the vet give you an rx for Otomax?  That works wonders.  Once the a/bs start working he will be fine.

G doesn't have any food allergies, but he definitely has allergy problems when the pollen count is high in the summer.  Actually he had kind of a miserable summer as our pollen count was very high this year.  He has some ear problems over the summer and I thought we had gotten rid of them but apparently there was some carryover.

He is doing much better now.

Sue,

We've got an open prescription for Otomax but this time the vet prescribed Synotic with Baytril.  It has been working quite well so far.  We still do have 1 refill of the Otomax left so probably will get that to keep some on hand.

Poor G, this summer has been unsually hard on him his ears, tail pocket, skin problems, etc.   :'(
Kind regards,
James and Goliath
